99 is an urban transport app that offers car booking services for both personal and business purposes. It was launched by Paulo Veras, Ariel Lambrecht, and Renato Freitas in 2012 and its operations are based in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Routee and 99

The solution Routee provided to 99 is Call Masking.

Call masking is a Service that allows you to make and receive calls without exposing the caller’s and the receiver’s real numbers. This is usually achieved by having an MSISDN number as intermediate in order to hide the real number. Call Masking can be provided in two ways:

1) One-way call masking (passenger’s number masking only):

Step 1:

Passenger asks for a taxi through the Taxi Company’s platform

Step 2:

A Driver is selected to match the Passenger’s request and the Passenger’s number is temporarily matched to a Virtual Number, provided by Routee, that the Driver sees

Step 3:

The Driver calls the Virtual Number (MSISDN) provided through the Taxi Company’s platform

Step 4:

Passenger receives a call from Driver’s real number

Step 5:

Ride is verified by both parties

2) Two-way call masking (Both parties’ number masking):

Step 1:

Passenger asks for a taxi through the Taxi Company’s platform

Step 2:

A Driver is selected to match the Passenger’s request and the Passenger’s number is temporarily matched to a Virtual Number, provided by Routee, that the Driver sees

Step 3:

The Driver calls the Virtual Number (MSISDN) provided through the Taxi Company’s platform

Step 4:

Passenger receives a call from an unknown virtual number that Routee provides and has the Taxi Company’s Caller ID

Step 5:

Ride is verified by both parties
